From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 09/04/2005 Cessna 182R, N2426S departed gls at 0630 for a VFR flight around the galveston. There were four people on board. After takeoff the landing gear up indicator failed to illuminate when gear was retracted. The aircraft stayed in the gls pattern and attempted an emergency extension of the landing gear without effect. The crew also smelled hydraulic fluid. The crew then declared an emergency with Houston approach and elected to fly to efd. Enroute another aircraft inspected the landing gear and confirmed that the landing gear was not fully extended or retracted. They stayed in the vicinity of efd to burn off excess fuel, and with the advice of Cessna center they attempted to add fluid to the hydraulic reservoir. They added engine oil three times, which did not provide enough pressure to lock the main landing gear. The nose gear was down and locked. The crew then elected to execute an emergency landing and were cleared to runway 22 at efd. Post landing the crew was assisted by emergency personnel though there were no injuries. The aircraft suffered damage to the left hand horizontal stab outboard of stringer, with the spar damaged. The LH elevator is scrapped and buckled at the inboard actuator linkage. The left wing tip was damaged. The tail cone area is scrapped. The hyd gear pump circuit breaker was out, the landing gear circuit breaker was in, the landing gear control was in the gear down position. The hobbs meter was 78.7 hrs. Total airframe hours approximately 3417 hours. Incident privacy data omitted closed and accident DFW05CA252 opened. 10/03/2005 inspected landing gear hydraulic system and found the down gear hydraulic line at the nose gear actuator failed p/n S2178-4-0102 at actuator assembly-nosegear p/n 1208514-9.
