From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 9/23/05 N642SW, a Piper aircraft model PA-24-250, was landing runway 27R, Gillespie field El Cajon, CA. The pilot and sole occupant stated that right main gear failed to lock down. The see tower confirmed rt gear was not down. The pilot elected to land gear up. The aircraft received minor damage, and no injuries were reported. Review of N642SW maintenance records revealed that a new right main gear conduit (push pull cable) had been installed during an annual inspection conducted on 05/12/05. Further inspection revealed that bulkhead jam nuts used to secure the right push pull cable to the fuselage had disengaged allowing the entire cable assembly to move. This condition prevented the right gear to fully extend. The Piper PA-24 service manual indicates that both aft and forward jam nuts be safely wired. No safety wire was present.
