From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot privacy data omitted was doing pattern work in his amateur built challenger ii on amphibious floats having put 7 hours on the aircraft in the past month. He had just got his float plane rating with the intent of taking this aircraft to a lake this day and practicing water takeoffs and landings there as well. After several touch and goes the engine quit at the end of runway 3 at about 300 feet. He banked the aircraft around and attempted a landing in the flat area around the approach end of runway 25. The aircraft hit a little harder than normal, bending the main structural tubes in the fuselage and associated structure, and breaking off one main landing gear assembly.
