From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Enroute from mhr to mkc at FL250 over eastern Colorado, experienced icing, descended to FL 210. Approximately 20-30 min later experienced icing again and descended to FL 170 and a little bit later descended to FL 130 due to turbulence. Then had total loss of power with torgue indication at "0" and engine temp below 100 degrees. Called ATC for nearest airport. Set up emergency landing for mhk. Tried restart without success. Pilot thought he was going to make the runway and elected to put the gear down as late as possible. But, when gear were extended the excess drag resulted in landing short of the runway. Minor damage to the aircraft and no injuries. Only the pilot was on board. Per pilot statement, the engine air intake deicing system was not turned on. The EA400-500 pilot's operating handbook, section 3, emergency procedures, para 3.5.p indicates the engine air intake deicing should be "on" if flight into icing conditions is encountered. The fuel system was inspected and found to have fuel supply available throughout entire fuel system with no contaminants found in lines or filters. The engine pneumatic system was inspected. No leaks were noted. The ignition system was found to be operational. An engine run could not be performed on the aircraft due to propeller damage. The engine was removed and sent by crate to the rolls royce facility in indianapolis, IN. With an indianapolis FSDO ASI present, the engine was removed from crate and put on a test cell. The engine was started and run up to maximum take-off power and found to be within temperature limits.

As the FAA filed it
