From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot had departed Boeing field, seattle, WA on an eaa young eagles flight with two ninth grade girls on board. He intended to land at Paine field, Everett, WA and have the girls switch seats. During landing on runway 16L, the aircraft touched down on the left edge of the runway and went off the side of the runway into the grass. The pilot added power to go around and overrotated in an attempt to avoid PAPI lights and a taxiway sign. He struck the taxiway sign with the left main gear and continued to go-around flying at a slow speed and high pitch attitude. The aircraft climbed at a very shallow angle and struck trees approximately 3,000 feet off the end of the runway, then cartwheeled and burned.
