From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot reported that the aircraft landing gear would not retract after takeoff. The aircraft lost altitude while the flight instructor was looking away to determine why the landing gear would not retract. The flight crew lost control of the aircraft and impacted the runway, damaging the landing gear and wing structure. The landing gear departed the airframe when the aircraft departed the runway into the grassy area adjacent to the runway. The aircraft was severely damaged when the gear penetrated the upper wing skins on both main landing gear. Fire erupted from the engine compartment after the flight crew egressed the aircraft and was extinguished by local fire fighters.
