From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 11/23/2005 at 0630 a B-727-200 operated by K11A while inbound into roc reported the following: "felt strong shutter in aircraft, trim then ran away. Aircraft shuttered for approx 10-15 seconds. Trim was then jammed. After procedure the trim un-jammed and then was able to operated the system manually." Because of weather the crew diverted from roc to syr. After performing multiple functional checks of the system per the B-727 maintenance manual 27-40-11, K11A maintenance had the trim stick at 10 degrees nose up. During the troubling shooting maintenance removed the stab trim brake assembly, the main stab motor, and the auto pilot stab trim motor, however the trim was still locked. It was determined that the problem was with the jackscrew assembly. Maintenance replaced the jackscrew assembly, gimbal assembly, and the gimbal support arms, all per their respective maintenance manuals. On 11/29/2005 the aircraft flew from syr to yip for it's functional evaluation flight. The functional evaluation flight was good. On 12/21/2005 after consulting with Boeing, K11A'S dom shipped the jackscrew assembly to Boeing for further testing. This incident is considered closed.
