From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot tookoff with a paying passenger on the pilot's first flight of the morning, and they got to about 200 feet alg on a right downwind. Half way down the downwind leg the engine quit. No other noise, no popping or sputtering, it just quit. He observed the pilot descend and impact a tree nose first. The airplane was equipped with an emergency parachute but he thinks the pilot was too low to activate it. The fuel tank was full when the pilot took off. The wreckage was examined by a friend of the pilot. He stated that the propeller did rotate a bit so he knows the engine isn't seized.
