From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Flight was to familiarize new owner with aircraft. Flight initiated out of flagstaff, where the new owner, the pilot, privacy data omitted performed the take off and retracted the landing gear. He stated he had difficulty raising the gear after takeoff. The flight proceeded to Winslow to facilitate practice touch and goes. It was decided that the flight instructor privacy data omitted ^ was to perform the first landing with privacy data omitted following him thru. privacy data omitted Entered the traffic pattern, slowed the aircraft, extended the landing gear and observed the green landing light. The flight instructor privacy data omitted ^ took over the controls and on final asked if the gear was down. privacy data omitted Told him he had a green light. Upon touchdown, as the weight of the aircraft came into contact with the ground, the aircraft gear extension handle slammed down (disengaged from extended position) and the landing gear retracted. Awaiting maintenance inspection of the landing gear handle locking mechanism to determine whether there is a mechanical malfunction of the lock.
