From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The PIC privacy data omitted was being introduced to his aircraft for the first time as the operator. The pilot privacy data omitted does not have a tail wheel endorsement. The owner/builder privacy data omitted of this amateur built aircraft was familiarizing the PIC on the operation of this aircraft. The two of them flew for approximately 20 minutes, with the owner operating the aircraft. The owner landed the aircraft and switched seat positions (fore and aft seats) and the PIC took control of the aircraft. The takeoff was successful. The PIC lost control of the aircraft after maneuvering it from base to final. The aircraft crashed belly first into an oil tank located approximately 100' off centerline of the runway. The owner suffered a broken leg, and the PIC had minor bumps and bruises.
