From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On April 08, 2006, at approximately 1800 CDT, an M-20 had the gear collapse on landing on runway 35 at Duncan (kduc), OK. The pilot (student) was receiving instruction for commercial certificate when this event occurred. The instructor had given engine out simulation just after the pilot entered left down wind for landing on runway 35. The pilot configured aircraft for landing and indicated gear down and green and added flaps for landing, also, the instructor statement indicated a gear down and green. At maingear touch down the pilot reported a bang and heard scraping sound and then the propeller began striking the runway. The aircraft came to rest on runway and when pilot started exiting the aircraft he noticed gear handle in the retract position, but he was unclear how this occurred. There were no injuries to the pilot or the instructor. The aircraft sustained some damage to center belly, nose gear doors, and propeller. Also, maintenance was unable to find any mechanical problems with the landing gear system.
