From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot privacy data omitted purchased this Kitfox iii last fall and was taking flight instruction from privacy data omitted to satisfy insurance requirements. Both pilots were interviews separately and gave collaborating accounts of the accident. Each pilot believes the engine was not developing full power on takeoff. During the takeoff roll the aircraft started to drift to the right of the centerline on runway 11 at Lewiston, ID. The pilot privacy data omitted was the sole manipulator of the controls. The pilot privacy data omitted became aware of a runway/taxiway marker on the right side of the runway. The pilot privacy data omitted became concerned that he may collide with the marker and applied left rudder to correct the right drift and prevent the collision with the runway/taxiway marker. The pilot privacy data omitted overcorrected and the aircraft ground looped to the left. The right main gear failed and slid under the aircraft damaging the left lower longeron and tearing the fabric in that area on the underside of the fuselage. privacy data omitted Had no brakes on the right pilot position and could not access the throttle because the pilot privacy data omitted had his hand on the throttle. privacy data omitted Indicated that the pilotprivacy data omitted was slow to retard the throttle during the ground loop possibly due to a vernier type throttle control.

As the FAA filed it

(-23) THE PILOT ^PRIVACY D^ PURCHASED THIS KITFOX III LAST FALL AND WAS TAKING FLIGHT INSTRUCTION FROM ^PRIVACY DATA^ TO SATISFY INSURANCE REQUIREMENTS. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY D^ WAS THE SOLE MANIPULATOR OF THE CONTROLS. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY D^ BECAME AWARE OF A RUNWAY/TAXIWAY MARKER ON THE RIGHT SIDE OF THE RUNWAY. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY D^ BECAME CONCERNED THAT HE MAY COLLIDE WITH THE MARKER AND APPLIED LEFT RUDDER TO CORRECT THE RIGHT DRIFT AND PREVENT THE COLLISION WITH THE RUNWAY/TAXIWAY MARKER. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY D^ OVERCORRECTED AND THE AIRCRAFT GROUND LOOPED TO THE LEFT. THE RIGHT MAIN GEAR FAILED AND SLID UNDER THE AIRCRAFT DAMAGING THE LEFT LOWER LONGERON AND TEARING THE FABRIC IN THAT AREA ON THE UNDERSIDE OF THE FUSELAGE. ^PRIVACY DATA^ HAD NO BRAKES ON THE RIGHT PILOT POSITION AND COULD NOT ACCESS THE THROTTLE BECAUSE THE PILOT ^PRIVACY D^ HAD HIS HAND ON THE THROTTLE. ^PRIVACY DATA^ INDICATED THAT THE PILOT^PRIVACY D^ WAS SLOW TO RETARD THE THROTTLE DURING THE GROUND LOOP POSSIBLY DUE TO A VERNIER TYPE THROTTLE CONTROL.
