From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 5/03/06, at approximately 11:00 am, an Aeronca AR-11-BC, N4045E, landed at whitford's airport, Weedsport, NY, on runway 10/28. Upon landing the engine quit, prompting the pilot/owner, privacy data omitted to exit the aircraft and attempt to "prop start" the engine. A witness stated that the pilot privacy data omitted said, "it got away from me" and the aircraft struck him, knocking him to the ground. Another pilot saw the Aeronca executing circles in an adjacent bean field, and was able to approach the aircraft and successfully shut down the engine. It was noted that the throttle position was at the 2/3RD open position. The pilot privacy data omitted was taken to a hospital in serious conditions, with a broken arm, broken ribs and a punctured lung. In a telephone interview on 5/16/05, privacy data omitted EMT with the Weedsport fire dept. Stated that during the ambulance ride, the pilot privacy data omitted told him that after landing, he was headed back to the hangar when his engine stalled. He got out of the aircraft to prop start it, but realized he'd left the throttle pulled out. He attempted to board the aircraft but the left wing struck his left shoulder. The NTSB has determined that because there was no intent to fly, this is not an accident.
