From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The student pilot departed odessa, Texas, at 0700 CDT, on a solo cross country to (E41) big lake, then to Crane (E13), and back to (odo) odessa-sleymeyer airport, in odessa, Texas. Between the hours of 0830 to 0900 CDT, on June 7, 2006, the student pilot reported 10 miles out on the UNICOM frequency and announced he would enter down wind and land on runway 12 in Crane, Texas. The student pilot did not notice men and a truck were on, or near, the runway as he was touching down. The student swerved left to avoid the truck. The propeller struck an object as the aircraft departed the left side of the runway. The student applied power, and took off from the dirt adjacent to the runway. He noticed the airspeed was lower than normal and the airplane did not seem to climb as it should. He lowered the nose and gained airspeed about 50 to 100 feet over the ground and then began a climb. He elected to return to odo due to the men and the truck on, or near, the runway at E13. The aircraft climbed to 4,500 feet MSL at 90-100 KIAS. The power was reduced to 2200 RPM due to vibration and RPM overspeed. The student landed at odo around 0915 CDT.

As the FAA filed it
