From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pegasus aviation's Boeing 767-3P6 was on a ferry flight from Miami International Airport, Miami, Florida to Mexico city, Mexico for a prepurchase inspection by mexican airlines who had contracted with pegasus to ferry the aircraft to Mexico. During the preflight walk-around, the mexicana ferry pilots noticed the emergency over wing exit step deployed and they called their mechanics over to check it out. The mexicana mechanics opened the emergency over wing exit hatch from inside the aircraft to stow the step (this action armed the over wing slide-chute). The pilots then noticed an emergency doors warning light and an over wing slide chute eicas message and called the aircraft owner's mechanic-rep to come to the cockpit with his laptop maintenance computer to check out the light. They all decided it was only an erroneous indication and the pilots taxied the plane out for take off. At the beginning of the take off roll the over wing slide-chute deployed and detached itself from the aircraft. The aircraft continued on to Mexico city and the slide chute was found on runway 8L by Miami-dade ramp control in time to tell an aircraft on final to go around.

As the FAA filed it
