From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On June 14, 2006 at approximately 19:30 LCL, a balloon operated by the pilots privacy data omitted encountered a low level wind shear during an approach to a landing in an open field near Frisco Texas. The balloon began a higher than normal descent resulting in a hard landing, ejecting privacy data omitted from the basket. The balloon became airborne again without the additional weight of privacy data omitted in the basket resulting in a second hard landing which ejected privacy data omitted from the basket. The balloon continued across a field and came to rest against a light pole where a fire ensued completely destroying the basket, propane bottles and burners.
