(-23) On July 3, 2006 at approximately 1825 hours, on the state Port authority rail yard, in Port Royal, SC, a Cessna 172, N3974Q, landed on an abandoned railroad track. The off airport landing, as reported by the pilot, occurred because, he ran out of fuel. Examination of the aircraft at the rail yard site revealed that both wing tanks were empty of fuel and the gascolater contained only a cup of fuel. The nose wheel was ripped from the aircraft and the right wing at the wing tip was slightly bent. Examination on site revealed no structural damage.
