What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Airman was operating by himself his amt-home build velocity aircraft under 14 CFR part 91 at Modesto airport. The airman states that he had just had the propeller replaced with a new one 60 lbs heavier than the old one. He was attempting some touch and go landings in the pattern to get the "feel" of the new propeller, and to investigate a newly recommended landing technique by other velocity owners. He completed one touch and go landing. Upon his second landing attempt, the airman states that he got "too slow" on final and "stalled" the aircraft too high resulting in a hard landing. The airman states that he feels his landing gear cables were set too tight and with the resulting hard landing, the main gear collapsed. Damage to the aircraft resulted in minor scrapes on the aircraft belly, destruction of the propeller, and an approx 8 to 9 inch gash and hole in the left "rudder-vater." There were no injuries and no fire. The weather was VFR and no flight plan had been filed.
