From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) At approx 1740 pilot called mayday, stating loss of engine power and that aircraft was losing altitude. Pilot attempted landing on road which is part of an abandoned du pont facility. Aircraft struck tree at about 25' up on the tree. It appears that the aircraft caught fire on the right wing at that time, and control of the aircraft was lost. At impact with ground the aircraft slid to the right eventually rolling onto its side, into a ditch and erupting into flames. The wing flaps appeared to be in the full up position.
