From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft was on an IFR flight plan from corpus christi, TX to Jeanerette, LA (2R1). Aircraft was initially talking to lft approach control during his approach into Jeanerette, but cancelled IFR and made a visual approach to the field. At the time of the approach, it was raining at the field and according to one eye-witness it was raining heavily. Aircraft was subsequently observed by this witness on the runway, in the rain, with landing lights on and was observed to take off again. On site investigation determined that during his take off and climb, the aircraft first struck a portion of the five foot high airfield perimeter fence then, in sequential order, a section of the roof of a single story building, a utility pole behind that building then striking the upper portion of two medium trees, a large tree, a section of roof of another single story family home, multiple power lines in front of that home, a palm tree and finally crashed inverted into a mobile home across the street with the pilot and passenger sustaining fatal injuries. The aircraft and mobile home were engulfed in flames and the male occupant of the mobile home, while being pulled from the burning home, subsequently collapsed and was not able to be revived.
