From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) 7-23-2006 At 1610 local, N241JL, s/n E3644 a Beech G36 crashed during landing or touch-n-go at Eagle airpark, mohave valley, Arizona. The aircraft appeared to touch down near south end of runway 17. Aircraft traveled 118' past runway into dirt & brush, hitting water canal berm (10' high at about a 45 degree angle), impact to berm ripped nose wheel off, aircraft launched over canal, over 55' of dirt road and landed in ag field. Aircraft rotated almost 180 degrees after impact with berm. Aircraft then caught fire, possibly due to r/h MLG piston puncturing r/h wing tank, piston was found separated from strut, engine also separated from firewall. The pilot and rear passenger (double amputee) did not survive the fire, the passenger in r/h front seat crawled out badly burned. This passenger was airlifted to burn center in las vegas. R/h wing and main cabin area sustained the most fire damage. L/h wing root also burned, engine had little fire damage, prop had some fire damage. The pilot had been certificated since 1-28-2006 as private pilot, airplane single engine land and instrument land. The three occupants had been drinking at the pilot's own bar in needles, calif. Prior to flight per witness statements.

As the FAA filed it
