From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Pilot departed Independence California airport. Pilot attempted to climb for terrain clearance. Subsequently the aircraft failed to maintain a climb due to what the pilot stated was severe windshear. Pilot elected to land aircraft straight ahead as turning back to the airport was not an option due to rising terrain. During the landing phase aircraft left hand wind auxiliary tank clipped a tree which caused aircraft to pitch downward and to the left. The aircraft came to a rest in a nose down position. Pilot exited aircraft and was met shortly after by the U.S. Forest service. Pilot arrived at the FSDO this date to provide this statement which will also be made part of the office file.
