From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft was enroute from roseboro, NC to linden, NC at approx. 900 ft. altitude when the engine "backfired" and the prop stopped. Restart was attempted but unsuccessful. Pilot attempted to land in field; however, could not make that field due to trees. Aircraft landed prior to hitting trees in an adjacent field. Upon impact, nose gear folded under cabin, a prop blade hit the ground and was broken off, the left wing hit the ground, and the plane turned approx. 180 degrees from impact. The fuselage and engine mount were fractured in various places. The pilot climbed out of the wreckage and walked to a nearby house. He suffered various cuts and bruises.
