From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On August 29, 2006, at approximately 1000 CDT, N9254F departed abilene regional airport (abi) enroute to lubbock preston smith international airport (lbb). N9254F is a two engine homebuilt pusher with open cockpit. The pilot had secured a flight bag in the rear cockpit using the safety belt. During the flight the pilot noticed the zipper on the bag had opened. Papers and other articles were beginning to leave the bag. Concerned that the objects could strike the propellers, the pilot decided to make a precautionay landing on the road below him. He saw no evidence of traffic on highway 380 and decided to land. During approach to the highway he failed to see a power line that crossed the road. The wing struck the power line just before touchdown causing the pilot to lose control. The aircraft struck the ground and sustained substantial damage to the tail, wings and both propellers. No injuries.
