From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On the day of the accident, the PIC privacy data omitted verbally stated he was flying over the ocean straight and level east of Topsail Island when he heard a loud bang and then the aircraft vibrated uncontrollably. At that point, he bailed out at approx. 2,000 ft (PIC was wearing a parachute). PIC stated the aircraft landed in the water with minor damage to the airframe. The next day the local pamlico sheriff stated the engine was not on the airframe when the aircraft was retrieved from the water. The PIC never made a written statement and never sent in the maintenance logbooks as I requested. Several attempts have been made to contact the PIC and were unsuccessful.
