From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

(-23) The FAA was not invited to participate in a formal investigation, by the California department of forestries. NTSB preliminary report indicates the aircraft was operating low level, while maneuvering, during an aerial observation flight in steeply rising terrain, (25 to 40 degree upslope) in a box like canyon. A witness reported hearing the engines rev up just prior to the sound of impact.
