From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot had recently bought the amateur-built Kitfox airplane and brought it home on a trailer. On the day of this incident, he planned to conduct taxi tests only, no intention to fly. While conducting taxi tests, the airplane became airborne, yawed to the right, and crashed onto the ground. After the impact, a fire broke out in the engine compartment and developed into a grass fire that consumed the airplane. A passenger was aboard the airplane at the time of this incident and both individuals were injured. A discussion with the NTSB confirmed this occurrence to be classified as an incident.
