From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Iic was privacy data omitted in Washington, d.c. on 10-25-2006, Cirrus N121LD was on a VFR flight from northern California to the grand canyon national airport. Upon reaching a location approximately 10 miles south of the mormon mesa VOR, the pilot of N121LD observed what appeared to be IMC conditions ahead of, and on his desired flight course. At this point the PIC obtained an IFR clearance from center to transition through this weather. Initially the PIC received an altitude clearance of 11,000 feet due to a traffic conflict, and was then cleared to 13,000 feet. Within approximately 5-7 minutes of flight into this weather, the PIC of N121LD reported that he was picking up icing everywhere upon his aircraft. At this point la center lost radar contact with the N121LD, and the wreckage site was located approximately 68 miles DME off the las 065 degree radial.
