From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft departed cape girardeau, MO on a filed flight plan to dupage, IL. Approximately 30 minutes after departure at 9000 feet, pilot noticed decreasing oil pressure and manifold pressure. Pilot notified Kansas city control that he had an engine "issue" and requested to return to cape girardeau. After engine performance deteriorated further, the pilot requested closest airport and was given vectors to perryville, MO. Shortly thereafter the engine quit altogether and the pilot was forced to land in a bean field 5 miles east of Chester, IL. The pilot was uninjured but the aircraft was substantially damaged.
