From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Aircraft landed on runway 25 at lpr - Lorain county regional airport, elyria, Ohio. After touching down on main wheels when nose wheel contacted runway surface, aircraft veered off to right. Pilot tried to control aircraft with rudder application and increasing left brake to no avail (as witnessed by skid marks on runway from both nose wheel and left main landing gear). Aircraft went off runway to the right approximately 1/3 of the way down the runway from the approach end and went into the grass. Nose gear dug into grass, bent rearward, and collapsed. Left main collapsed and bent rearward after digging into grass and dirt. On examination collar on nose wheel yoke allowed nose wheel to rotate to right and may have been the causal factor in this event. Home-kit built aircraft. Nose strut component provided to owner-builder as complete component-unit.
