From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) At approximately 1750 hours on December 9, 2006, this aircraft impacted with trees while approaching to land on runway 12 at Lee Airport, edgewater, Maryland. The trees are located approximately 15 degrees to the left of the centerline of runway 12 approximately 150 yards to the left and 500 yards from the blacktop. There is a red obstruction light in the grove of trees that was installed in 1987 but it was not operating at the time of my arrival on scene @ 1850 on December 9th. On December 10th I utilized a MD state police helicopter and measured the trees at 130 feet and the obstruction light at 100 feet. It appears that the trees have continued to grow since the installation of the light. The last radar contact shows the aircraft traveling at 109 KTS at 300FT AGL. At the time of impact, the aircraft was configured for 20 degrees of flap, high RPM, rich mixture but reduced power. The power lever was found at reduced power setting and bent over. Radar data shows that the pilot did not fly a rectangular pattern, was consistently low and was not stabilized on his final turn.
