From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On Friday 15 December 2006 at approximately 1300 hours eastern daylight standard time an amphibious adventura ii, registration number N554FS, serial number AP2A0031, attempted a water take-off of the intracoastal waterway. The aircraft was certificated as experimental for the purpose of operating as an amateur-buile aircraft and was piloted by a student pilot. Pilot logbook entries indicate that he was appropriately endorsed for piloting this aircraft in solo flight. There were no discrepancies noted in the aircraft logbooks. The take-off run began to the south, at the pga boulevard draw bridge in palm beach gardens, Florida. One witness, who observed the accident from a sail boat that was sailing on the inter-coastal waterway, stated the aircraft taxied by her boat. After passing, the pilot of the aircraft was said to have gunned the engine. After a short period the witness stated the aircraft achieved maybe 100 feet of elevation when she observed the aircraft arc to the left with his right wing up and his left wing down. The aircraft then disappeared into the trees.
