From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Non certificated pilot took three passengers out for a joy ride around grand lake. Pilot admitted to first responders that he had a couple of margaritas before the flight. Witnesses reported the aircraft flying in a southerly direction low over the lake. The aircraft banked left, the engine quit and the plane descended in an easterly direction. They did not see it impact the water. Pilot put the gear down and asked passenger to open the door prior to impact. Aircraft came to rest approximately 200 feet south of shreline in 12 feet of water and pilot climbed out and swam to shore. Left wing, aux tank was selected. Right main had approximately 3 gallons of fuel and 3 gallons of water. Right aux tank had approximately 1 gallon of water. Left main tank had approximately 4 gallons of water. Left aux tank had approximately six gallons of water and five gallons of fuel. There was no evidence that the fuel tanks had been compromised.
