From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The aircraft struck trees approximately 1.7 NM northeast of marion county airport (apt) on a northerly heading. The outboard 1/3 of the right wing separated and came to rest in the wooded area just ahead and below in the direction of travel of the aircraft. The aircraft struck the ground approximately 200 feet beyond the first contact of trees in the front yard of a trailer home. The aircraft stopped within 30 feet of the point of impact with the ground. The left wing separated from the aircraft at impact and was lying within 20 feet of the fuselage. The fuselage came to rest on its left side pointing in a west southwesterly direction. All three blades of the propeller were curled back. Ice chunks were found by the marion county sherriff's department and one piece was saved in a freezer at the trailer home. The shape on one side of the ice chunk would match the surface of a leading edge of a wing.

As the FAA filed it
