From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On December 28, 2006 at approximately 10:15 PST instructor pilot privacy data omitted and chinese private rated student pilot privacy data omitted with student pilot ^priv^ at controls made a normal takeoff runway 31 at Castle airport (mer). The student pilot ^priv^ raised landing gear handle and received no indication in the cockpit that the gear had retracted. The instructor pilot privacy data omitted then lowered the gear handle and again received no indication in the cockpit of the gear being up, down or in transit. The instructor pilot privacy data omitted called Castle tower and asked if they would assist with a visual inspection of the gear. A low approach was performed and the tower controller informed the pilot that the gear "appeared to be down", according to the instructor pilot privacy data omitted. The instructor pilot privacy data omitted made a normal traffic pattern and slowed the airraft as much as possible and performed a normal landing at which time the left main gear collapsed. As the aircraft was traveling down the runway, the instructor pilot privacy data omitted maintained to keep the aircraft on the runway centerline by using right brake, full right rudder and began shutting down the left engine followed by the right when the aircraft stopped. There was no fire or injuries. The aircraft sustained minor damage. Weather was no factor.
