From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) N711SK crashed about 3:43NM short of Essex County Airport (cdw) while on the localizer 22 approach. Mda in the vicinity is 860MSL. Terrain in the neighborhood is approximately 400 feet MSL. The aircraft struck the tops of 80 to 100 foot tall trees prior to impact. Weather at the time was very foggy. The wreckage came to rest in the driveway of a private residence located at privacy data omitted and was consumed by post impact fire. The wreckage was examined and flight control cable continuity was established from cockpit to all flight controls. The landing gear had been extended. The propeller hub was separated from the engine and had shattered into several pieces. All three propeller blades were detached from the hub and all displayed leading edge gouging and cord wise scratching. Four parallel gouge marks were located along the ground scar and were consistent with the propeller blade profile. After reviewing the aircraft records it was determined to be in airworthy condition, however it was noted that the engine was 88.5 hours beyond its manufacturer's recommended 1700 hour tbo per tcm service information letter SIL98-9A and that the propeller was 288.5 hours and 5 1/2 years beyond its manufacturer's recommended tbo per mccauley service bulletin SB137AB.
