From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Departed concord, California (ccr) enroute to las vegas, Nevada (las) via lancaster, California (wjf). Prior to arrival the pilot privacy data omitted listened to las ATIS and heard that the airport had windshears and that the airport would be closed to landings. The pilot privacy data omitted diverted to baker, California (0O2), after approximately 2 hours the pilot privacy data omitted checked las weather and found the conditions of strong winds and windshears in the area, he departed 0O2 for wjf. Enroute to wjf the pilot privacy data omitted encountered strong headwinds, and at wjf he made two attempts to land but was unable to land due to strong crosswinds. The pilot privacy data omitted was advised that ontario, California (ont) had calm winds so diverted to ont. During climb to 8,500 feet MSL, he experienced loss of power with the engine quitting a couple of times, he turned around and headed for Palmdale, California (pmd) and declared an emergency. During the descent the engine ran fine until short final where again he lost power with the engine quitting. When the aircraft was inspected I found that the tip tanks were empty, and the main tanks had very little fuel. Fuel quantity indicators showed empty for tip tanks, and just touching empty on the main tanks.
