From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The subject aircraft had undergone a major alteration to add a larger engine, propeller, propeller drive, starter and battery. The aircraft had not been previously flown by the new owner, who intended to fly a cross country flight from (OP2) shoestring to (9W8) baublitz airport. After departure from runway 07, the engine quit during climb. The aircraft stalled and crashed in a 90 degree nosedown altitude in a farm field .31 miles from teh runway. Inspection of the wreckage did not reveal any ballast on board to balance the nose heavy condition. An engine disassembly inspection is being conducted by the engine manufacturer.
