From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 05/06/2007, at approximately 1510 hours, PIC taxied to runway 01, and positioned aircraft to the right of the runway in an effort to compensate for a 15 to 20 kt crosswind from the west. As aircraft accelerated up to approximately 15 miles an hour, (indicated) aircraft began to veer to the left, crossing the center of the runway. At this point, PIC decided to abort the takeoff and attempted a "ground loop" to the left. This maneuver was tried by means of applying full left rudder to change the direction of the aircraft. However, aircraft continued across the runway and down over a 19 foot embankment, first striking a dense overgrowth of small trees and bushes, then striking a large tree with the left wing. The force from the impact caused the aircraft to bounce backwards three feet before coming to rest. Prior to the left wing striking the tree, the aircraft ran over a large tree stump that ripped apart the under belly. As a result, there was extensive damage to the aircraft landing gear structure and rudder control assembly. Detailed inspection of the aircraft revealed left wing bent back slightly, with leading edge damage. Center and right wing was observed with evidence of buckling in structural areas. This damage was most likely caused by severe stress loads as a result of left wing impact. In addition, observed cabin ceiling interior with underlying damage to fuselage. One propeller blade was found bent back approximately 15 degrees from its normal position. After further examination, it appears that PIC was able to shut down the engine prior to impact. No injuries or fire was reported by the PIC. After examining runway 01, reporting inspector discovered a 165 foot skid markk from left main wheel assembly leading to the left of runway 01, to the embankment. This evidence is inconsistent with a speed of 15 mph that was stated by PIC.

As the FAA filed it
