From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The pilot while preparing to fly Piper PA28R-200, N15027, s/n 28R-7235320 discovered that the battery was too low to crank the engine. He positioned his automobile next to the aircraft and used jumper cables to jump start the aircraft. The pilot stated that he had tied down the tail of the aircraft before jump starting, and after the engine started he put the throttle at idle and climbed out of the aircraft to un-hook the jumper cables and un-tie the aircraft. When he stepped on the wing to get back in the aircraft, the aircraft moved and he fell off the wing. The pilotless aircraft moved across the ramp where its left wingtip struck Cessna 172, N8941X before picking up speed and running head on into Cessna 170B, N2482D, where the aircraft came to rest. The pilot reported that the park brake gave way. A park brake system inspection revealed no discrepancies.
