From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On may 9, 2007, at approximately 1330 EST, the pilot in command (PIC) of an Aeronca champ, N1478E, attempted to land on an unimproved grass strip which was located in the pic's backyard. The landing area is approximately 800 feet long, 20 feet wide, with tall trees at one end of the runway, and tall trees with an area carved out for the approach of an aircraft at the other end. A stone wall was cleared from the threshold of the edge of the runway. On approach, the PIC had the trim in the full up position. The PIC touched down where the former stone wall was located hitting a rock that was partially hidden. The right main landing gear impacted the surface of this rock, shearing the right main landing gear away from the attach point at the axle, bending the right strut, and the propeller dug into the ground bending the propeller. The PIC was not injured. This was the second time the PIC has landed at this grass strip.
