From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) The certificated flight instructor and his private pilot rated student, were conducting training in preparation for the student's pending commercial pilot flight practical test. The instructor and his student were conducting flight operations in the near vicinity of the Wasilla Alaska airport, when unknown events and/or actions occurred, which resulted in the aircraft impacting the terrain approximately 300' short of the Wasilla rwy 03 threshold. An on-site review of the student pilot's flight logbook revealed that on June 23, 2007, the previous day, he and the same flight instructor had conducted 180 degree turn, emergency return flight/landing operations. The investigation failed to determine which of the two pilots was manipulating the flight controls, when the accident occurred. Both individuals received fatal injuries. Note: contrary to the 8020-9, this training flight was conducted under 14 CFR 61. The student independently rented N52103 from aero tech (ells) a 141 flight school, which is based at merrill field, AK.

As the FAA filed it
