From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On July 03, 2007, Mooney M20E departed cae @ 1445 and was enroute to fdw. This was an instructional flight for a CFI applicant. A simulated engine failure was performed @ 3,500 ft and @ 700 AGL, a recovery was made on the climb, and passing through 1,700 ft the engine developed a partial loss of power. The CFI pilot stated that there was no roughness and that the power reduced slowly, eventually failing completely. An off airport landing was made in a remote area with shrub oaks, the pilot left the landing gear in the up position and on the landing the left wing made contact with a stump and turned the aircraft 180 degrees. No injuries were reported from either pilot. An airworthiness investigation is ongoing.(-23 amendment) airworthiness investigation revealed that the fuel servo was defective and has been turned over to a repair station to determine the serviceability.
