From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) privacy data omitted on Saturday, July 14, 2007, at approximately 1645 hours, this inspector interviewed the pilot privacy data omitted who was the pilot-in-command involved in the crash of a replica version of a world war I vintage bi-plane known as a fokker d-vii, depicting registration number c-gwwi that was built by the great war flying museum located in brampton, ontario, Canada. According to the pilot privacy data omitted, he departed from the Geneseo Airport located in Geneseo, new york at approximately 1835 hours on Friday, July 13, 2007, with the intent to practice maneuvers for the air show that was scheduled to take place today, Saturday, July 14, 2007. He further indicated that he was the first of six (6) aircraft that were scheduled to practice for the upcoming air show. The pilot privacy data omitted stated that he initially rotated and climbed to an altitude of approximately 100 feet above the ground, headed in a southwesterly direction, when he began to experience a power loss of the 6 cylinder ranger engine that was powering the fokker d-vii aircraft. The pilot indicated that he had contemplated landing the aircraft straight ahead on the remaining runway, but had concerns about the other five (5) aircraft that were taking off behind him and that his attempt to land might possibly create a safety hazard to the remaining aircraft. Instead, the pilot privacy data omitted made the decision to attempt to make it through a gap in a nearby row of trees and land in a field just beyond the tree line. The pilot privacy data omitted continued, stating that he was maintaining a glide speed of approximately 55 knots when he attempted to negotiate the gap in the tree line, but apparently the right lower wing struck several trees, causing the aircraft to change direction to the right, veering nearly 180 degrees from its initial flight path. The aircraft struck the ground facing the tree line and in the opposite direction of flight. The pilot privacy data omitted stated that he exited the aircraft from the left side and ran into the adjacent field that he intended for landing. He indicated that he remained in the field for approximately 10 minutes before he heard someone shout from across the river form the air show to determine if he was injured or not. The pilot privacy data omitted stated that he was not injured and it was approximately 15 minutes before emergency personnel were able to locate his position. Upon arrival of the emergency personnel, the pilot privacy data omitted was examined for injuries and a determination was made that he did not require medical attention.

As the FAA filed it

(-23) ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ ON SATURDAY, JULY 14, 2007, AT APPROXIMATELY 1645 HOURS, THIS INSPECTOR INTERVIEWED THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WHO WAS THE PILOT-IN-COMMAND INVOLVED IN THE CRASH OF A REPLICA VERSION OF A WORLD WAR I VINTAGE BI-PLANE KNOWN AS A FOKKER D-VII, DEPICTING REGISTRATION NUMBER C-GWWI THAT WAS BUILT BY THE GREAT WAR FLYING MUSEUM LOCATED IN BRAMPTON, ONTARIO, CANADA. ACCORDING TO THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, HE DEPARTED FROM THE GENESEO AIRPORT LOCATED IN GENESEO, NEW YORK AT APPROXIMATELY 1835 HOURS ON FRIDAY, JULY 13, 2007, WITH THE INTENT TO PRACTICE MANEUVERS FOR THE AIR SHOW THAT WAS SCHEDULED TO TAKE PLACE TODAY, SATURDAY, JULY 14, 2007. HE FURTHER INDICATED THAT HE WAS THE FIRST OF SIX (6) AIRCRAFT THAT WERE SCHEDULED TO PRACTICE FOR THE UPCOMING AIR SHOW. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE INITIALLY ROTATED AND CLIMBED TO AN ALTITUDE OF APPROXIMATELY 100 FEET ABOVE THE GROUND, HEADED IN A SOUTHWESTERLY DIRECTION, WHEN HE BEGAN TO EXPERIENCE A POWER LOSS OF THE 6 CYLINDER RANGER ENGINE THAT WAS POWERING THE FOKKER D-VII AIRCRAFT. INSTEAD, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ MADE THE DECISION TO ATTEMPT TO MAKE IT THROUGH A GAP IN A NEARBY ROW OF TREES AND LAND IN A FIELD JUST BEYOND THE TREE LINE. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ CONTINUED, STATING THAT HE WAS MAINTAINING A GLIDE SPEED OF APPROXIMATELY 55 KNOTS WHEN HE ATTEMPTED TO NEGOTIATE THE GAP IN THE TREE LINE, BUT APPARENTLY THE RIGHT LOWER WING STRUCK SEVERAL TREES, CAUSING THE AIRCRAFT TO CHANGE DIRECTION TO THE RIGHT, VEERING NEARLY 180 DEGREES FROM ITS INITIAL FLIGHT PATH. THE AIRCRAFT STRUCK THE GROUND FACING THE TREE LINE AND IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION OF FLIGHT. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE EXITED THE AIRCRAFT FROM THE LEFT SIDE AND RAN INTO THE ADJACENT FIELD THAT HE INTENDED FOR LANDING. HE INDICATED THAT HE REMAINED IN THE FIELD FOR APPROXIMATELY 10 MINUTES BEFORE HE HEARD SOMEONE SHOUT FROM ACROSS THE RIVER FORM THE AIR SHOW TO DETERMINE IF HE WAS INJURED OR NOT. THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ STATED THAT HE WAS NOT INJURED AND IT WAS APPROXIMATELY 15 MINUTES BEFORE EMERGENCY PERSONNEL WERE ABLE TO LOCATE HIS POSITION. UPON ARRIVAL OF THE EMERGENCY PERSONNEL, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^ WAS EXAMINED FOR INJURIES AND A DETERMINATION WAS MADE THAT HE DID NOT REQUIRE MEDICAL ATTENTION.
