From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On July 15, 2007, the pilot privacy data omitted, an FAA certificated commercial pilot (PIC), reported sustained smoke/fumes in the cockpit of N650RS, a Piper model PA-31T during climb after departing cgf enroute to leb. This event occurred shortly after the cabin heater was turned on. The PIC deactivated the electrical power to the heater, and returned to cgf without further incident. When on the ground, evidence of leaking fuel was observed by the PIC, in the nose area of the aircraft, which is the location of the heater. The aircraft cabin heater was replaced the week prior, and subsequent flights after the heater replacement were uneventful. The suspected defective heater (serial number 1386725) and initial investigation by the facility that installed it revealed signs of fuel leakage in the area of the flange of the combustion head (Piper p/n 763-299), where the fuel feed, nozzle holder and solenoid valve assembly (Piper p/n 754-866) attaches. The defective heater assy was sent to the facility that performed the recent overhaul (aircraft heating and electrical inc., crs XX2R) for testing and evaluation, which will be witnessed by FAA personnel.

As the FAA filed it

(-23) ON JULY 15, 2007, THE PILOT ^PRIVACY DATA OMITTED^, AN FAA CERTIFICATED COMMERCIAL PILOT (PIC), REPORTED SUSTAINED SMOKE/FUMES IN THE COCKPIT OF N650RS, A PIPER MODEL PA-31T DURING CLIMB AFTER DEPARTING CGF ENROUTE TO LEB.
