From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) On 07/25/2007 the aircraft from davenport airport, davenport, IA (dvn) to cropdust a field in henry county, IL. During cruise flight the aircraft lost partial power. The commercial rated pilot headed back to dvn and noticed engine oil on the right side of the engine cowling. The engine continued to lose power as the pilot attempted to turn away from interstate I-80 to attempt an emergency landing in a field. The aircraft continued to lose power, finally stalling and impacted the ground in a corn field. A fire erupted upon impact. Persons on the interstate highway saw the aircraft go down, and went to assess the situation. The pilot was given assistance by these persons to egress the aircraft. The pilot received third degree burns and a broken leg. The aircraft received substantial damage to the cockpit/hopper/center section area from the post-impact fire. Nothing follows.
