From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) 07/28/2007, At approximately 0700, N44118 a two seat powrachute corp Pegasus 912M powered parachute departed sfq destined for tgi, 81 miles north of sfq. The pilot reported that he was climbing at 500FT/MIN at 5400RPM over sfq and had climbed to 1800' AGL when he encountered a sudden drop in RPM off approximately 1000RPM. The pilot stated that he checked the throttle friction on the front and rear throttles and they were not bound or restricted. The engine hesitated, had a sharp drop in RPM and stopped. He attempted to restart the engine and had no response. He made a 180 degree turn towards sfq and started searching for an area to land. He noticed cul-de-sac 30 degrees to the right and maneuvered for the emergency landing. At approximately 300' AGL he saw several people and a dog move into the cul-de-sac. He made an immediate 25 degree turn to the west towards a construction site and struck a large tree and came to rest in the "river view court" construction site in downtown Suffolk, Virginia.
