What happened
The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.
(-23) Witnesses stated that after the parachutist deployed the parachute she went into a slow spin and was having a hard time. The canopy was described as being half inflated with the right side of the canopy deflated and shroud lines tangled. The parachutist stated the canopies were twisted, so she looked for the toggles (control toggles) and attempted to untangle the canopies with negative results, noting the canopy appeared diagonal. The parachutist noted she was at 2600 feet and she pulled the velcro strip to release the main chute and attempted to release the reserve chute. She then noted a chute flying on her right side. She then reached for a yellow toggle which controls the brakes and pulled it all the way down. Another witness privacy data omitted stated to her that the chute was not fully open and approximately 25% of the canopy was deflated. The parachutist privacy data omitted proceeded to the ground and landed hard sustaining moderate injuries.
