From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23) Upon departure from Kelley'S island, Ohio at night, the aircraft impacted the water resulting in the death of the pilot and one passenger. All accessible control surfaces moved with appropriate cable inputs. Engine cylinders were intact and held compression. L/h and r/h magnetos each fired at all six points when tested by hand. All bottom sparkplugs showed signs of normal wear. All top sparkplugs were well worn, with the ground electrode touching the main electrode on the #3 plug. Taxi, landing, and navigation lights were in the "off" position at time of impact. See additional sheet marked "FAA form 8020-23 addendum, N1301Y, 09-03-2007" for the position of noted switch and controls.
