From the FAA’s Accident/Incident Data System (AIDS), through its Aviation Safety Information Portal, as reported. The NTSB investigates accidents separately, and its record of an accident is the fuller one. The aircraft is matched to the registry by N-number and event date, checked against the reported make and model; the registry’s history has gaps, so older matches can be wrong. Compare the reported make and model.

What happened

The FAA’s narrative, in sentence case. The FAA writes it in capitals and removes private details.

(-23)On September 5, 2007 at or about 0910Z, on a reposition flight from kbfm to ktpa, N702PA, a Cessna 208B serial # 208B-0702 experienced an engine failure at 11,000 feet approximately 29 miles east of the Cross City, Florida airport. The engine failure was sudden with no warning or spool down time. Ng gauge instantly went to -0-. Upon engine failure, the pilot declared air emergency and ATC advised that the closest airport was Cross City heading 080 and 29 miles. The pilot turned towards the airport, went thru the engine out procedures and attempted an engine restart which was unsuccessful. The pilot set up at best glide speed and glided approximately 22 miles. At about 300 feet the pilot opened the crew door and latched it open, slowing the aircraft to just above stall speed before impacting the trees. Upon contact with the trees the pilot pulled back on the yoke and stalled the aircraft into the trees. The aircraft came to rest approximately 8.2 miles on the 280 radial from the Cross City airport.
